Grand Theft Auto V is one of the biggest games of all time. Selling more copies over its lifespan than almost any other game in history. It has a large and passionate fanbase that has been begging for more from the GTA series other than just GTA Online updates for years.

At long last, Rockstar has listened. Today they shared many details pertaining to the future of Grand Theft Auto, but most importantly they revealed that the next entry in the series, potentially Grand Theft Auto VI is now in development:

With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.

On behalf of our entire team, we thank you all for your support and cannot wait to step into the future with you!”

– Rockstar Games

We weren’t given any other details, such as a release window, but this announcement is still huge in of itself.

The gameplay looks rather amazing, albeit a bit slow with its movements at times. You’ll be equipped with a wide range of elemental powers, spiritual trinkets, and even more traditional weapons like a bow. Your character wakes up in the streets of Tokyo, unaware of how you got there. You find your mind bound with a powerful spirit who you find out is the source of your new found powers. There are many unique monster designs, and each archetype will require you to utilize different strategies to take them down, and the game will allow you to customize how your abilities are leveled up to better suit your specific playstyle. You’re able to explore the city to find different items such as Talisman that will enhance your abilities, or use your spectral vision in order to spot other potential points of interest. One of my favorite gameplay mechanics we’ve seen is your wire-like weapon that you can use to slice or lasso enemies.
