Back 4 Blood is mere days away from release and some folk, thanks to early access, have been hard at work slaying hoards of zombies already. The title from Turtle Rock Studios, the same masterminds behind the Left 4 Dead series, has been long-awaited by fans with the title going through various stages of Alpha and Beta testing, but the wait is almost over and the reception has been mostly positive. It’s crawling its way onto Xbox (Game Pass!) and other platforms on October the 12th. Unfortunately, though, it’s bad news for those players wanting to go at it alone. There are, to put it mildly, some horrendous setbacks if you want to play solo, but the developer has at least acknowledged people’s dismay at the restrictions for solo players.

Stat progression, accomplishments and, believe it or not, achievements will be disabled when you’re playing through Back 4 Blood on your lonesome. And, at this moment in time, there’s no workaround other than to play the game online and with friends (or randoms, if you so wish). Not only will playing in single-player reap no rewards whatsoever, but the game also requires a constant online connection. Take a look below at what stuff you’ll be missing out on if you play through the story on your own:

Thankfully, as mentioned above, Turtle Rock Studios have acknowledged the issue and state in a tweet: “We have heard your frustrations about progression in solo mode and are discussing ways to address the issue. Thank you for your patience and feedback at this time – we’ll have more news as we strategize on potential ways to make it happen.”

When, and if, we’ll hear any more on this issue is anyone’s guess, but it’s promising to see the dev team speak about players’ concerns. And it begs the question: without an offline mode, what happens when the servers inevitably close? Well, we’ll have to leave it up to Turtle Rock Studios to remedy and stand by their word to add one post-launch, but for now, it’s probably a good idea to ensure you’ve renewed your Xbox Live/Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
