It seems the success of Xbox’s own subscription service Game Pass has reached their competitors as a scoop from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reveals a plan for a PlayStation alternative due next spring.
According to Jason, the project has been dubbed ‘Spartacus’ and “will allow PlayStation owners to pay a monthly fee for access to a catalog of modern and classic games”. The subscription will merge the already current subscriptions ‘PlayStation Now’ and ‘PlayStation Plus’, the base model for ‘Project Spartacus’ will include all current offerings for PlayStation Plus users. Tier 2 will include PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5 titles, and Tier 3 will include “extended demos, game streaming and a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games.”
No official word has been given from PlayStation regarding the news, but considering its launch window we may see some official announcement within the coming months.
